Thanks for the feedback! I’m currently reworking the upgrade system into more of a skill tree, with stronger upgrade paths, better synergies, and more freedom to build around different abilities. I’m also changing XP so using abilities contributes to leveling up, which should help fix the issue of needing to buy upgrades that feel meaningless. These changes are planned for a future update.
I hate having max mass reduced. Sometimes I can get a powerful upgrade, but I buy a different one, and now I don't have enough max mass to get the powerful upgrade. Can you at least give a warning for what does it?
Minerals increase your Max Mass, so spending them also reduces the bonus they provide. It’s an intentional mechanic that encourages you to manage different resources depending on what you want to unlock. You can see the Max Mass bonus in the tooltip by hovering over either the Minerals resource or the Max Mass icon in the Stats section. That said, I agree that if you don’t hover over those elements, you may never realize how it works. I’ll try to make this mechanic much more obvious in the game.
Very charming game, feels a bit like Orb of Creation, but why not have another game in this genre. Sweet art style, nice progression line, even though it is still early content :) Really enjoyed getting every upgrade and achievement.
Thanks a lot for the kind words and for playing through the demo! 😊 Orb of Creation was definitely one of the games that inspired Slime Reborn. As development continues and I add more mechanics, abilities, and systems, my goal is to make it feel much more unique while keeping what makes the genre fun.
Really interesting game! I'm also stuck on the level 4 plateau, so that should be worked out. You'll probably want to also look into some optimization for a game that's meant to be played in browser, since it really chugs even early in the game. I'm using a VERY bad computer, but I've had similar games running without major problems on here before.
Could you explain a bit more about where the lag happens? Is it during a specific part of the game, or is the performance generally slow throughout the entire gameplay? That would really help me narrow it down.
Also, just to make sure, are you stuck at Level 4 because there are no upgrades left to buy? I'm already working on improving the XP progression for Level 5, but I just want to confirm that's the issue you're running into.
I kept on playing to the end of the demo after making that comment actually! I think it's actually a core design issue how much progress slows down starting at level 4. I don't feel that someone should have to get so many of the upgrades and achievements just to level up. If it were up to me, I might tie experience to the main activity of the game (ie, using abilities and combos), and stretch out the amount of experience needed to level up. Like how in RPG's you usually gain most of your experience from killing monsters, plus bonus amounts from doing quests.
The lag was happening at all times, not in spikes. I was on the lowest of low end computer at the time -- I'm on my midrange PC now and it's running smoothly, so honestly you probably don't have to worry about it.
I just released a small update that should fix the Level 4 progression issue and includes some general performance optimizations. If you get a chance to try it again, I'd really appreciate it if you could let me know whether you're still experiencing either of those issues.
That's definitely an area that still needs more testing and balancing on my side. You can earn XP by purchasing more upgrades or completing achievements in the game. You can check the Achievements section by clicking the trophy icon on the left side of the screen. I'll also work on making this progression clearer in a future update.
Please let me know if there are no upgrades left to purchase and you've already completed all the achievements possible. If that's the case, then it's a progression issue on my end that I'll need to test and fix for the next update. Based on my own testing, though, you should have enough XP to reach Level 5.

Noway this is based in the Manga, and it's such as peak game. I would appreciate if you would join my discord with other developers, discord server is in my creator profile 😊!

i think some upgrades should be removed from level 4 content with the remaining ones being stronger
or just move some mineral and wood costs to mass cause that feels meaningless at this stage
could also just make ability slots more accessible so that abilities like enzyme surge feel more worth it earlier

also most of the game felt about resource gathering rather than growing, which seemed like the premise intially
